Corner-to-corner crocheted Minion Pillow

After seeing Sarah from “Repeat Crafter Me” make so many amazing C2C (corner-to-corner) projects, I finally decided to give it a shot!

I watched this video and this one to get an idea of how to start and how to change colors, which is tricky. I also found this pattern – “Spring into Summer Blanket” by Susan Carlson that was SUPER helpful with pictures explaining exactly what to do and what it should look like. In this pattern – “Crochet Christmas Character Afghan” from Repeat Crafter Me, Sarah explains how to make individual squares and figure out sizing.

The pillow form I bought was 12″ x 12.”  Using I Love This Cotton yarn and an H crochet hook, I made a practice square to figure out how many squares I needed. I decided that 20 squares x 20 squares would be perfect for the minion I wanted to make.

I found some different minion pixel ideas online and tweaked them a little to fit into the space I had. My favorite part is his little smirk. 🙂

I chose to use I Love This Cotton yarn because it’s so soft and had all the colors I wanted. It was also on sale at Hobby Lobby at the time! I used 1 skein of Turquoise, Bright Green, Curry, Dove, Black, and White.

Once I had my yarn and my graph all figured out, I started crocheting!

Materials needed:

  • Size H crochet hook
  • 1 skein of I Love This Cotton yarn in
    • Turquoise
    • Bright Green (if you want a solid green back, you’ll need 2 skeins)
    • Curry
    • Dove
    • Black
    • White
  • 12″ x 12″ pillow insert
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

I had no idea I would end up with so many ends to weave in at the end! There are a lot of color changes, even in simple graphs, but it’s worth it!

I was a little low on the green yarn once I finished the front so I decided to do some stripes for the back to use up some of the other colors.

Once I had both sides done and all the ends woven in, I put both pieces together and single crocheted around 3 sides with 3 sc in each corner. Then I put my pillow form inside and single crocheted around the last side.

I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!!

Feel free to use my minion graph to make your own pillow or add it to an afghan. I’d love to see pictures if anyone makes one! It was a lot of fun. Happy Crocheting 🙂
