Amigurumi Snowman

Last Christmas I wanted to make a special snowman to add to my boyfriend’s Mom’s snowman collection. I made her this little guy and she absolutely loved him! I’m finally getting around to writing up the pattern!

Amigurumi Snowman (1)

Materials Needed:

  • Size D and F crochet hooks
  • White yarn (worsted) – I used I Love This Cotton (1 skein)
  • Orange yarn – I used I Love This Cotton (small amount)
  • Yarn for hat (bulky) – Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick would be perfect (small amount)
  • 2 – 8mm black safety eyes
  • 2 buttons
  • Black embroidery thread
  • Embroidery/yarn needle
  • Fiber fill
  • Beans/Rice/Corn for stuffing the bottom
  • Sewing pins (for attaching arms and nose)

Body/Head: (Using D crochet hook)

R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6sts)

R2: inc around (12sts)

R3: *sc 1, inc* around (18sts)

R4: *sc 2, inc* around (24sts)

R5: *sc 3, inc* around (30sts)

R6: *sc 4, inc* around (36sts)

R7: *sc 5, inc* around (42sts)

R8 – 14: sc around (42 sts)

R15: *sc 5, dec* around (36sts)

R16: *sc 4, dec* around (30sts)

  • Attach the 2 buttons to his belly using black embroidery thread

R17: *sc 3, dec* around (24sts)

R18: sc around (24sts)

R19: *sc 3, inc* around (30sts)

R20: *sc 4, inc* around (36sts)

R21: *sc 5, inc* around (42sts)

R22: *sc 6, inc* around (48sts)

R23-30: sc around (48sts)

R31: *sc 6, dec* around (42sts)

R32: *sc 5, dec* around (36sts)

R33: *sc 4, dec* around (30sts)

  • Attach the eyes between rows 27 and 28, 8 stitches apart

R34: *sc 3, dec* around (24sts)

R35: *sc 2, dec* around (18sts)

  • Stuff the bottom half with beans/corn/rice to add weight and stability
  • Stuff the top half with fiber fill

R36: *sc 1, dec* around (12sts)

R37: dec around (6sts)

Fasten off and weave in the end.

Arms: (Make 2 using D crochet hook)

R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6sts)

R2: inc around (12sts)

R3-4: sc around (12sts)

R5: *sc 2, dec* around (9sts)

R6-7: sc around (9sts)

Fasten off with a long tail for sewing. Stuff with fiber fill Attach to the body, leaving room around the neck for the scarf

Nose: (using D crochet hook)

R1: 5sc in magic ring (5sts)

R2: inc once, sc around (6sts)

R3-4: sc around (6sts)

R5: inc once, sc around (7sts)

R6: inc once, sc around (8sts)

Fasten off with a long tail for sewing. Attach to head, centered under eyes

Scarf: (using F crochet hook)

Chain desired length. Can be tied around neck or criss-crossed and sewn to body

Hat: (using F crochet hook)

R1: 6 sc in magic ring (6sts)

R2: inc around (sc) (12sts)

R3: switch to dc for the rest of the rows *dc 1, inc* around (18sts)

R4: *dc 2, inc* around (24sts)

R5: *dc 3, inc* around (30sts)

R6: *dc 4, inc* around (36sts)

Fasten off with a long tail for sewing. Make a pompom by wrapping yarn around 2 fingers 100 times. Slip the yarn off your fingers and tie a 12 inch piece of yarn in a knot around the middle and then cut all the loops. Trim until it becomes round, leaving the 2 long pieces for attaching. Attach to the top of the hat. Attach the hat to the head by sewing all the way around it.
